Must-Have: Denim Pencil Skirt + Budget-Friendly Buys

Denim Pencil Skirt: Frame, $245 CAD (Available at Aritzia)

I love that the reputation of the denim skirt has been repaired, re-branded and re-worked into the fashion world. The light-wash, destroyed denim mini-skirt-wearing Teenage Nat/Laguna Beach fan would be pleased to know that mid-20’s Nat can still rock a denim skirt. Only this time, in a much more chic way. I truly believe that the denim pencil skirt is the sartorial solution for my casual Autumn wardrobe. I can pair it with thick chunky sweaters and high boots on cooler days, or airy blouses and booties when Mother Nature decides to reminisce about summer. The possibilities are endless.

I was perusing Aritzia (don’t tell my boyfriend… or my mother) and fell in love with the Frame pencil skirt above, but the lust quickly died once I saw the not-so-modest $245 CAD price. Like hello, I’m a recent grad with student loans! This, however, does not mean I can’t afford to try out a trend (or two…) 😉 #girltreatyoself

My years as a University student has taught me that it’s okay to have “champagne taste on a beer budget” because, if you shop smart enough, you can look like you drink champagne for breakfast on a daily.

And so, with a little bit of research, I found some budget-friendly alternatives:

E1158_DM1095  J.Crew Denim Front-Slit Skirt $143 CAD

J.Crew is well-known for their quality and classic pieces. I do love the front-slit trend! Think this price point is still a little high? Keep reading!

zara  Zara Denim Midi Skirt $35.90 CAD

I do love me some Zara. Their price points make it affordable to test out new fashion trends without breaking the bank and their quality is a little better than H&M/F21, which will serve you better in the long run. This version is a midi, which would also be versatile!

F21  Forever 21 Buttoned Denim Skirt $21.90 CAD

Who doesn’t love a cheap thrill? The front button-up trend has been everywhere and I’ve been longing for Alexa Chung for AG’s version (I obviously own a very similar version), and this pencil skirt definitely plays up to the trend.

Old Navy  Old Navy Denim Pencil Skirt $16.50 CAD

This was hands down the most pleasant surprise! Great wash, simple front-slit and amazing price. I don’t have much experience with Old Navy, so I’m curious to know how it fits and how the denim feels, but for $16.50, how can one go wrong?

Anyone have any other alternatives for me? 🙂 xo
