Confessions of a Springaholic

Spring Buys

Ok, I can explain the logic behind this splurge.

What kind of person would I be if I blogged all about spring cleaning and refreshing essentials, but didn’t follow my own advice? A hypocrite, of course, but with a poor complexion and terribly styled hair. Even. Worse.

I’ve been on and on about how the dry climate in my new city has taken its toll on my skin and hair. I’ve been trying all sorts of different products, but I’ve finally committed to the ones above. For Spring, at least.

To find out what I like about my new Spring picks, keep reading!

Face the Facts

Skin

L-R: Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam $24 CAD | Clarifying Lotion $19 CAD | All-Over Clearing Treatment $28 CAD

I am a fan of the Clinique systems. During my good ol’ Ontarian days, I was all about Combination Skin set, but since I relocated, my skin has been breaking out like crazy. To nip it in the bud, I’ve started using the Acne Solutions line, instead – and it has been working like a charm! This 3-step system is great for all skin types, but, as a tip, if you find it dries your skin out a smidge, I’d recommend pressing some beauty oil onto your face before applying makeup.

Try: boscia’s Tsubaki Beauty Oil ($57 CAD), which I love, love, love.

Hair to Stay

Hair

L-R: Bumble and bumble. Prêt-à-Powder, $31 CAD | All-Style Blow Dry, $37 CAD | Thickening Hairspray, $33 CAD

HairI’ve been keeping a little secret from you, bloggie friends:

I chopped my hair off. (I KNOW.)

My hair was so dry that the ends were truly beyond repair, but what better time to experiment than at the start of Spring? This time, I’ve committed to maximizing styling between washes to minimize stripping essential oils from my hair. I trust Bumble and bumble and love layering the three products together to stretch shampoo days.

Tip: Sprinkle some dry shampoo powder on clean hair. This makes sure excess oils are absorbed starting on Day 1.

I Misc You Like Crazy

Ok I Didn't Really Need This Stuff.jpg

L-R: Lush 9 to 5, $22.95 CAD | Miu Miu Rollerball, $32 CAD | Sephora Formula X ‘The System’ $40 CAD (Colour: Impeccable)

Ok, perhaps this is where I get a little carried away, but I can explain:

  1. I was raging about the new Miu Miu perfume in February and I love it so much that I had to buy the rollerball when it was released. Now I can refresh my scent wherever I go!
  2. I also needed a makeup remover and the Lush 9 to 5 cleansing lotion is a dream! It is gentle, yet effective, and smells GREAT. Almond oil and dove orchids? I’m there!
  3. You already know I cut out my $40-60 manicure budget every two weeks, but that doesn’t mean I have to neglect my digits! I love this Formula X System – the nail applicator allows for smooth strokes, it is fast drying and the end result feels just like the gel manicures that I’m accustomed to!

I’m def purchasing that bumble dry shampoo powder!! I’ve been hearing such good things about it but was waiting for someone I know to recommend it personally, LOL. So thank you! My hair gets oily within 12 hours. So tragic.

I’m shopping for a thickening spray too but I wonder if that’s good to use often?

I 100% recommend the bumble dry shampoo powder! My hair used to get so oily asap that I could barely go two days without washing (and look presentable lol). The powder is so good at absorbing oil and a little goes a long way. I sprinkle a little at the roots on Day 1 and then a little more on Day 2 or 3 if I need it. Smells great and it’s a very fine powder so it doesn’t get streaky like some dry shampoo sprays do. As for the thickening spray, I know whatcha mean! I don’t use a lot – just a tiny spritz. I layer it on top of the All-Style blow dry product (which I LOVE! It applies creamy and dries powdery), so I guess I use it more as a finishing spray than a thickening product lol, but it does provide a little lift. Let me know if you try any!!!
