Fun fact: I love to shop.
For a while, I was conflicted: do I keep splurging on classic investment pieces? Do I buy trendy, cheap threads? Do I finally, finally, give up my obsession with Forever 21? (The answer to that is ‘no’, FYI.)
And then something happened. I got engaged.
And then I started to budget for my wedding.
And then the following happened:
do I splurge on classic investment pieces? Compromise. The money-flying emoji tethered on to another Pinterest board.
I know. If I’m saving for my wedding, I technically shouldn’t be buying at all, but as a young(ish) adult navigating through my career, personal brand is everything! (I’d also like to mention here that off-shoulder blouses are a no-go at the office. Please don’t.) Image is a huge part of my/any personal brand and I’d never forgive myself if my outfits didn’t rep my quirky, chic and smart self.
So here we are – staple-worthy pieces for any business dress code, all priced under $100 and all capable of stretching seasons with a little TLC. Click through the break for details and click each pic for links!
You’re welcome. ❤
The Classic Blazer
Why you need it: It’s a classic for a reason! Black blazers are all well and good, but there is something so luxe about camel – even if the price tag isn’t! H&M is fast fashion, but trust me, no one will even notice if you rock the right pairings.
The Black Skinny Pant
Why you need it: Ok, ‘essential’. Clearly getting all the basics out of the way. So basic that you don’t even need a full Polaroid pic to see what it looks like. Just know that you need it. Perhaps in bulk because it can be worn every day as a base for all the fun above and below. Also, this featured Loft Essential Skinny Ankle Pant is my favorite.
The Pencil Skirt
Why you need it: For days when the pant won’t cut it like special events, meetings, or showing off your brand new ankle booties. Or showing off your brand new heels.
The Striped Top
Why you need it: The striped top oozes professional. But the well-placed ruffles on this BR shirt? So fun and flirty. They say it’s all the details, darling.
The Top Handle Satchel
Why you need it: I firmly believe that structured bags are the way to go. This Aldo purse is well-priced and the neutral colour-blocking makes for super versatile pairings. The strap also makes for a good option if you commute and need to be hands-free.
Why you need it: With a crossover neckline and the sweetest pleats, this dress is the perfect base for office wear. Pair it with statement pumps or knee-high boots, with a statement necklace and you are golden.
The Topper Coat
Why you need it: This is the First Impression. This is the in-between of hardcore wool coats in the Winter and trench coats in late Spring. This is versatile in colour. This would look fab over any office outfit. This is in my online Shopping Bag right now. Oops.
The Lace Top
Why you need it: There’s something so classic about this lace top. Maybe it’s the perfect neutral colour or the modest neckline, but this is your weekday safety net when you wake up late and have approx 10 minutes to get fabulous. Tuck it into your skirt, pop on some sweet earrings, rock a low ponytail and look chic all day.
The Fun Pant
you I need it: I plan to wear this pant every Thursday to celebrate Friday Jr. The frills are a playful addition to the standard black trouser. You know I love me a quirky piece.
The Statement Necklace
Why you need it: I love adding a little something sparkly to my outfits and you won’t believe how many conversations have begun with someone saying “I love your necklace!” A conversation starter that can elevate a basic blouse sounds like a sure thing to me.
The Printed Blouse
Why you need it: Just look at it. The florals are sweet, but the semi-sheerness is saucy. The ruffles are flirty and the tie neck is right on trend. Can you just buy it now pls?
The Everyday Bag
Why you need it: There’s always your go-to, goes-with-everything bag and this satchel by Sole Society might just be it. Does the stitch work kinda seem like it’s mimicking the Chloe Marcie bag? Maybe. But all the more reason why this purse is a great compromise.
Why you need it: you may say you’re a heels girl forevs now, but I promise you when you get older, you will value popping in and out of your stilettos and into flats. And when you do, you may as well opt for playful ones that are neutral, colour-blocked and fun.
